MAKE UP MONDAY: Armani Foundation

I tried this foundation on at the Armani counter in Neiman Marcus, and immediately knew it was a winner for women my age.

The PERKS of Armani Designer Lift:

-It’s firming

-Goes on smoothly

-Very supportive

-Feels good on the face

-Has sunscreen

-Glides on

It is not as light as my Dior Airflash foundation, but it mixes so well with my beloved Armani fluid sheers. I take a few drops of my pink Fluid Sheer and apply it right over my foundation with the same brush, on my cheeks or in other places I think could use some light. Adding a hint of color to your foundation is great for aging.

You can’t screw this up, since the coverage is buildable. I highly recommend it!

Have a great week,

MAKE UP MONDAY: Red Lipstick!

As a general rule, I do not wear red lipstick.DSC_0139

I would never have picked this color out myself, and this is why I am always preaching for women to go visit their local make up counters! I was at the Armani counter in Neiman Marcus at the Domain in Austin, and my fab friend and neighbor Lindy was helping me out.

She put this red lipstick on me, and right away we could tell it was perfect!

The reason this red works so well is that it is a sheer formula. I know a lot of younger ladies want super vibrant matte shades, but for me and others not 21 anymore, a sheer lipstick is a beautiful thing. I wore this on New Year’s with a little frosty off-white gloss, and it came out very festive.

This red Armani lipstick goes really well with my pink clothing, or anything brick colored (my favorite shade for these cold months). This is the sort of lip product that you can bring anywhere, wear anytime- and it was the ONLY lipstick I packed with me on my last trip! It’s that versatile and wearable.

I love the sheerness, and the lightness. It was a surprising find.

So! My two words of advice-

Get yourself to a make up counter and try, try try!

And invest in the good stuff. Even totally lipstick adverse women should check out how a sheer pop of color like this can transform your whole face.

Have a great week!

BEST TRAVEL TIPS

Over the years, I have perfected the art of traveling.

I get on a plane often, so I really know what I’m doing when it comes to packing, getting through security, and not killing yourself on the plane.

TIP 1: BAGGIES FOR SECURITY

The night before I travel, I prepackage all of my make up into plastic baggies. Then I put them in an easy access spot in my black plane bag. I have a lot of products, so I HAVE to plan ahead. We all know that TSA wants you to put your stuff in ziplocs, and sometimes you can get through without this step, but this is a definite “better safe than sorry” in my book. You can pre-baggie everything at home and zip through, or you can chance it and possibly spend 25 minutes with TSA agent Joseph going through your purse!

TIP 2: ROLLING DUFFEL BAG

If you’re checking your bag, make it a rolling duffel in a water resistant fabric. If they leave it on the tarmac, you’re f*cked- trust me, I know from personal experience! This is an easy bag to fill and drag through an airport, and isn’t unwieldy.

TIP 3: TISSUE PAPER

I pack everything in tissue paper. This is my little secret. I wrap suits, dresses, and everything else in tissue paper that I save during the year. This prevents stuff from wrinkling, to some degree, and is a good form of protection from the stress of traveling.

TIP 4: STEAM YOUR STUFF

Use the hot shower in your hotel room to get any wrinkles out of your clothes IMMEDIATELY upon arriving. Really, the sooner the better. Then hang them up in your closet. Hang the clothes over the shower rod, on the outside, with the shower head pointing straight down so there’s no splashing.

TIP 5: LIFT TEST OR CHECK

This is probably my biggest trick. If you can’t lift your bag over your head, check it!! You would be amazed at how many people, especially women, don’t check this before they leave the house. Then they get on the plane and someone else has to help them lift it into the overhead bin and take it back out. This is such a time killer! At home, just keep taking stuff out until you CAN lift it, if you don’t want to check it.

What are your best travel tips?

I would love to know!

Happy travels.

Weekly Favorite: Winter Boots

DSC_0270

These are my favorites. I call them my…

Go-To Black Winter Shoe Boots!

I first bought these way back in 2006, on a December afternoon in the beloved Nordstrom’s shoe department. In shoe years, seven years is a long time! They are a great basic. Not only are they comfortable, but they look great with jeans or tights and skirts.

I mostly wear them when I travel, since they are easy to slip on and off. They have a stacked heel, but the platform in front makes them wearable on long days. Plus, since they’re leather, they are much easier to care for than suede (although I love suede). I get them professionally cleaned every few years, to keep the leather nice, and I’m about to have them resoled for the second time.

Shoe care, ladies! It’s more essential than you think.DSC_0261

As I said, they were a Nordstrom’s find. I love Nordstrom’s for shoes and highly recommend you go there for your stylish winter boot needs. I like their selection, service, and price range. You can find shoes that are really affordable, and ones that are seriously high end. But I must say, if you’re looking for really fancy, top tier brand shoes, head over to Neiman Marcus or Sak’s instead (better selection).

I love my little Go To Black Winter Shoe Boots. What are your favorite pair to pull out once the weather gets cold? Luckily I live in Austin, so my winter boots are these cute ones, instead of real snow boots!

Happy shoe shopping!

Weekly Favorite: LA MER

This is what you should put at the top of your Christmas List.

In case you were wondering what item will really change your life, and would make the perfect $285 stocking stuffer, this is it.

Creme De La Mer.

DSC_0149

This is more than a weekly favorite! It is one of my all time favorite products that I have gone back for again and again. I love the smell, the feel, and how it works. I use it as a moisturizing base under make up, since it’s smoothing and helps my make up go on smoother.

This cream is worth the money because it works so well. It is so rich that I don’t even like to use it in the summertime! The ingredients are great- natural and strong. A little bit goes a LONG way with La Mer.

I definitely think anyone who can afford this should buy this moisturizer. I also use the eye cream. I also think you should just stop by the La Mer counter and talk to the women working there. I do this all the time! I don’t think you should feel nervous or afraid approaching these cosmetic counters, since the people working there know a lot about their product and want to help! Sample some Creme De La Mer and see how you feel.

I have a feeling you’ll love it.

What are your favorites this week? Do share!
