Over the years, I have curated a very specific lip routine. I am no longer experimenting with crazy colors, and I have figured out what works for me. Here are my favorite lip products!
Lipsticks and lip glosses I love:
The three lipsticks are all similar in shade, all a variation on pink tea rose. I love my Dior Lip Glow (which you can get at Sephora), my Rouge Ecstasy by Giorgio Armani (check it out here), and one by Bobbi Brown (which you can find here). I can apply them without looking at this point! And as you can see, these are all higher end products. I stopped wearing Revlon in my thirties. The color payoff and long lasting quality of luxury lip goods is so worth every penny.
I generally pair each lipstick with a Dior lip gloss in a matching tone. I have one peachy one and one pinky magenta one. The pink one goes amazingly with my Bobbi Brown lipstick. The Dior Addict lip glosses come in tons of colors. I want them all!
You’ll always find one of these babies in my purse! What are your favorite lip products? Share with me!
For this week’s Spiritual Friday, I thought I would share something that has turned out to be one of the best parts of my life. I guess that is how it goes, isn’t it? The craziest things are usually great things.
I am referring to my shelter dog Mandy, of course!
Mandy has the sweetness of a hound and the speed of a sheep dog, although I can’t be sure of her exact breed.
I do know that she is a little crazy girl. Here is Mandy around my house.
Whether she’s relaxing in bed or watching the kids walk home from school, Mandy does things all the way. She keeps my life exciting and full of joy. What keeps your life joyous?
Have a wonderful weekend.
A couple years ago, I had a closet full of jeans and serious work clothes. Fun clothes were a challenge for me. Since I am admittedly vain and really don’t like to show up in the wrong thing, and since I have made a personal commitment to having more fun in my life, my serious wardrobe was becoming a serious problem.
Until I discovered the joy of…
fun classic dresses!
It’s not that I wasn’t aware. I started trying them on while shopping, and ordering them online, and now I have quite a few in my closet. I wear them all the time! And for a fun night out, you can’t beat ‘em. Dresses also travel really well. A recent favorite, chosen for a first date kinda night was this striped knit from Anthropologie. Body conscious without being aggressive, it was a great choice.
This dress has all the forgiveness attributes – (1) cut on the bias, (2) strong cotton knit, and (3) lined! The colors allow pairing with almost any pair of sandals already in the closet. Also this dress could go up — fancier shoes and jewelry, or down – casually paired with a jean jacket.
By the way, this perfectly cropped jean jacket will be getting its own blog post – it’s an absolute essential and favorite of mine!

Another new week, another Make Up Monday post!
My latest find that is making me happy and helping me to have a ‘glow’ (yes- true feedback from more than one person so it’s a FACT!) is Giorgio Armani’s fluid sheer or “fluide embelliseur.” My friend & neighbor Lindi does freelance makeup, and she recently invited me to come and try some Armani makeup. She has a great touch, and she’s the one who introduced me to one of my new beauty essentials!
Light and easy to use with a brush (another of my beauty favorites- did you see this post?) it gives a soft, natural boost to your skin. Better yet it lasts for hours without fading…. So even if your usual blush disappears by lunchtime, using fluid sheer ensures you won’t be caught looking pale or washed out.
Of course, I also love it for the light, natural look it gives.
You can dab it on your lips or even as eye shadow if you want …. If you mix it with your foundation it can give you an all-over glow, or you can apply it strategically. My favorite spots are on the side of my face (above my cheekbones next to my eyes) and just across my cheek bones. Sometimes, I swipe just above my eyebrows.
Even InStyle agrees with me! This is a winning find for sure.

Nothing is more forgiving than a tan. We all know that.
So… being the vain and strategic woman I am, I have dedicated many hours to finding…
the perfect self tanner.
Here’s my criteria for self tanners: (1) they cannot smell, (2) they must give a natural looking color, (3) there must be an even application method, (4) and the drying time must be reasonable.
Tan Towels have been the consistent winner. I even tried their lotion, and I think the towels are the best shot for a good even application.
Here are my tips:
—Exfoliate. One of my favorite methods is to use Epsom scrubbing salts mixed with lotion. Rub all over and then sit in the tub for 20 minutes. If you don’t have time to sit in the tub…rub and rinse in the shower. (*And if you don’t have time to exfoliate, tan towels will still look good. But give yourself a treat sometime this week and hang out in that bathtub for a bit!)
—Do your feet last — careful on the sides and around your ankle bone. As soon as you are done with the application to your feet, apply a little bit of moisturizer from your ankles on down so it looks more natural.
—Scrub your hands and nails with a scrubbing brush as soon as you have finished applying.
—Let it dry for about 10 minutes before getting dressed. This will allow you to keep from ruining your clothes. And even a bit winds up on your clothes, it’s incredibly easy to wash – no need to use anything special to get it out of your clothes.
This is one of the few products that I am 100% in love with, and if I find a box, I will grab it. I buy mine at Nordstrom’s.
What are your tanning tricks?
One of my dearest friends used to urge me to “hold it lightly.” I would often hang up from our talks wondering exactly what she meant – what holding it lightly looked and felt like.
I think I understand now.
It’s simple really. Holding on tightly crushes, chokes the air out, stifles. It is desperate.
And desperate is not good.
Holding lightly acknowledges our want, yet frees us from our want. It allows for room, for air, for other choices. It is peaceful
And peaceful is good.
This week I have tried to hold it all lightly – the petty bothers; the silly disappointments; the promising news; the IRS notification – all of it.
When I am lighter, I am easier and life is easier.
Just a thought on this Friday. Have a relaxing weekend,
I thought it might be good for the (my!) soul to reflect on the past week and recall my favorite moments, in a weekly update called “Thursday Favorite.” It’s a practice in gratitude, and a chance to look back in the short term (because it’s that long-term look back that can be crazy making!).
This week has been eventful – good fortune is coming my way. Yet, two smaller moments come to mind.
It really is the small stuff.
A phone call with an old friend – we had worked together years ago – covered all the important life topics –raising kids, forgiveness, generosity, and where to get good legal help when you need it. I hung up feeling restored.
A perfectly ordinary walk home from the neighborhood coffee shop rendered me grateful. For some reason as I approached my house with Mandy the lunatic dog perched on the fence eagerly awaiting my arrival, I was overcome with a tremendous sense of gratitude. For the life I have and the life I have been able to live. Even my tiny corner house looked especially cheerful and welcoming to me. I felt not an ounce of scarcity.
(Here’s me with my lunatic in the backyard. Love my girl.)
What are your favorite moments of the week? It’s always good to look back over the last few days and take a deep breath. Share your favorite bits of your week with me, please!!
