DAILY LIFE: What I Wear For a Fun Night Out!

A couple years ago, I had a closet full of jeans and serious work clothes.  Fun clothes were a challenge for me.  Since I am admittedly vain and really don’t like to show up in the wrong thing, and since I have made a personal commitment to having more fun in my life, my serious wardrobe was becoming a serious problem.

Until I discovered the joy of…

fun classic dresses!

It’s not that I wasn’t aware.  I started trying them on while shopping, and ordering them online, and now I have quite a few in my closet. I wear them all the time!  And for a fun night out, you can’t beat ‘em.  Dresses also travel really well. A recent favorite, chosen for a first date kinda night was this striped knit from Anthropologie.  Body conscious without being aggressive, it was a great choice.

This dress has all the forgiveness attributes – (1) cut on the bias, (2) strong cotton knit, and (3) lined!  The colors allow pairing with almost any pair of sandals already in the closet.  Also this dress could go up — fancier shoes and jewelry, or down – casually paired with a jean jacket.

By the way, this perfectly cropped jean jacket will be getting its own blog post – it’s an absolute essential and favorite of mine!

Make Up Monday: ARMANI FLUID SHEER

Another new week, another Make Up Monday post!

My latest find that is making me happy and helping me to have a ‘glow’ (yes- true feedback from more than one person so it’s a FACT!) is Giorgio Armani’s fluid sheer or “fluide embelliseur.” My friend & neighbor Lindi does freelance makeup,  and she recently  invited me to come and try some Armani makeup.  She has a great touch, and she’s the one who introduced me to one of my new beauty essentials!

Light and easy to use with a brush (another of my beauty favorites- did you see this post?) it gives a soft, natural boost to your skin.  Better yet it lasts for hours without fading…. So even if your usual blush disappears by lunchtime, using fluid sheer ensures you won’t be caught looking pale or washed out.

Of course, I also love it for the light, natural look it gives.

You can dab it on your lips or even as eye shadow if you want ….  If you mix it with your foundation it can give you an all-over glow, or you can apply it strategically.  My favorite spots are on the side of my face (above my cheekbones next to my eyes) and just across my cheek bones.  Sometimes, I swipe just above my eyebrows.

Even InStyle agrees with me! This is a winning find for sure.

Spiritual Friday: “Holding It Lightly”

One of my dearest friends used to urge me to “hold it lightly.”  I would often hang up from our talks wondering exactly what she meant – what holding it lightly looked and felt like.

I think I understand now.

It’s simple really.  Holding on tightly crushes, chokes the air out, stifles.  It is desperate.

And desperate is not good.

Holding lightly acknowledges our want, yet frees us from our want.  It allows for room, for air, for other choices.  It is peaceful

And peaceful is good.

This week I have tried to hold it all lightly – the petty bothers; the silly disappointments; the promising news; the IRS notification – all of it.

When I am lighter, I am easier and life is easier.

Just a thought on this Friday. Have a relaxing weekend,
